The KING

Three decades ago, José Manuel Quevedo Sr. honored the traditions of the Canary Islands by storing his aguardiente in rare Albillo Criollo oak barrels, trusting time to do its quiet work.

Two years ago, deep in the aging cellar, his son José - now the master distiller at Aldea Distilleries- walked us through the shadows of that legacy. Hidden away, we found a few forgotten barrels. One tase was all it took to know: this was something truly exceptional!

Inside the bottle is the result of more than 30 years of patient aging - a silky, full-bodied rum made from hand harvested guarapo, matured in oak and finished with a final, six-month voyage across the ocean aboard the sailing ship Tres Hombres. 

A rum like no other - refined by time, shaped by the sea. 

Origin and distillation

The sugar cane is grown on Aldea's own fields. It is grown without the addition of fertilizers or pesticides. After distillation, the rum matured for 30 years in a Roble Iberico (Iberian Oak) barrel before receiving a second maturation in the cargo hold of the Tres Hombres.

His voyage on board of the Tres Hombres

This characterful and strong rum finally left the island in a Albillo Criollo barrel. 

Because the ship is constantly in motion, contact with the wood is intensified again. The Albillo Criollo cask infused the spirit during the time on board for a memorable Tres Hombres finish. 

Bottling

The rum of this Captain's Choice selection was bottled by Stokery Amsterdam with the help of the Tres Hombres team.

Tasting Notes

Silky and thick, this very old rum left its Albillo Criollo barrel after a long voyage on Tres Hombres. 

Rich and strong in the nose it appears with hints of banana and peer, stays on the palate smooth and characterful.

A long aftertaste with even more dry sweetness of tropical fruit and cocoa rounds up this majestic experience. Downright, colorful and strong it seems just made for a night of sea stories, legends and friendship.
